Alexander High School - Big "8" Conference

     Alexander High School came to establish itself as a powerhouse in the Big Eight Conference and was feared throughout the state. The school's athletic teams and departments won many "Big 8" championships. Mr. A. A. Alexander was the founder/organizer of the Negro "Big 8" which copied the blueprint of the "Big 8" sported by the white schools.
        Mr. C.N. Buchanan was the basketball and Football coach during the initiation of the "Big 8" conference. In 1937 the basketball team won the "Big 8" conference championship. Mr Buchanan's football team won the school's first football trophy in 1939, by becoming "Big 8" champs.

1965 Basketball Team - This team was 22-11 for the season and won 7 out of 9 tournaments. The coach Mr. C.O. Tanner was popular through-out the "Big Eight" Conference.
